NCBE

Dear Students,
So that you are fully prepared for the bar exam this summer, we want to make you aware of recent changes to the format of Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) questions. The MBE is a 200-question, multiple-choice test which will be administered on Wednesday, July 29.
Specifically, the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) has announced that the following types of questions should NOT appear on the MBE this summer:
  1. Roman numeral or "K-type" questions (e.g., I is true, but II and III are not true);
  2. "None of the above" or "All of the above" answer choices;
  3. A series of questions relating to a single fact pattern. Now, only one question will relate to each fact pattern;
  4. The words "if" and "unless" in most answer choices.
Additionally, the NCBE has announced that common nouns will be used in lieu of proper nouns where practical (e.g., "a painter" instead of "Pat the Painter").
Considering the NCBE's new guidelines, it is critical that you practice with the most exam-like questions available.
BARBRI has updated each and every one of our practice MBE questions to conform to the new NCBE guidelines.
If, however, you have received questions from friends who previously took the bar exam or questions from other bar review providers, we urge you to carefully review them to make sure they accurately represent the MBE questions you will see this summer.
For a fuller discussion of the changes announced by the National Conference of Bar Examiners, see http://www.ncbex.org/uploads/user_docrepos/770308_donahue.pdf

This is very important to read along with the strategies and tactics book.  Being able to break down the language of the exam can raise your MBE score significantly.

i think the common-noun use over the proper-noun use is more confusing. thanks, ncbe.

I don't think new books are necessary. Are they?

I personally think that practicing in the format of the bar IS important. For me the changes make a difference. I especially think that the one root, one question part is very significant. This is just my opinion.

I retook the MBE in February '09 and went from 133 July '08 to 143 using Adaptibar, I missed the Feb. essay in my state by one question. Thankfully I don't have to take the MBE in July. I did 1400 Adaptibar questions, they are actual MBE questions and I swear I recognized a good portion on the bar. For the money you can't go wrong plus being on the computer I did them wherever I had Internet access.
