Description
: I'm really disappointed with this barbri alternative that goes through the iTunes App Store. Yes, it's a great steal (at $1,000 for California, its only a forth of BarBri's price). It's convenient, too. You can bring the lecture series anywhere. Check the outline anywhere. You're only limited to where you can take your iphone/touch and the power charge.
But the outline is disorganized in my opinion (See last comments on this thread http://www.all4jds.com/Forums/aft/14112.aspx, which I did not make). Its flashcards are severely lacking (the Kaplan MBE flashcards are 10x better). The outlines are also very cursory, lacking depth for complicated issues. While you don't need to know every nuance of every issue for the bar, the black letter law outline given by BarMax rarely has illustrations to understand even the dehydrated form of subject understanding applicants are expected to know. Also, the lecturer basically just reads the outline given on the application itself. He has this need to end nearly every sentence with "right".
I've found substantive law errors on the application. One example is in the CA Prof. Responsibility unit. BarMax says that conflicts of interest can be overcome by simply disclosing the actual or potential conflict to the client. This is incorrect. Disclosure and informed consent is needed in CA. BarMax's discussion of CA evidence is so freaking confusing I had to look up the CA codes myself. Also, in the ConLaw section, the lecturer isn't very culturally sensitive in his discussion of 14th amendment scrutiny (a minor issue, but it pissed me off).
Technologically, the application simply isn't up to scratch. it crashes intermittently for pressing the "back" button or going into certain application features while using another features. You could be using feature A and then try to access another app feature, going through the command tree to B and then it will crash. But its not always consistent in how it crashes, either. Like, going from A to B doesn't always result in an app crash but will sometimes. The multiple choice cards, too, suck: when you want to test "all" subjects at once, sometimes the program simply goes through all criminal law cards and then into all contract cards. There's no big shuffle of subject matter. This was very disappointing for me.
I have a month until the CA bar. If I could go back and pay the extra money for PMBR or BarBri or [enter any alternative here] I would.
