The PMBR 3 day standard course gives me 1800 (800 online) questions, the adaptibar gives me 2300 all online. Other than tracking and whatnot which is very similar, is the PMBR course more recommended because of the mock exam?
In NY the mock exam is at the javit center where the actual exam will be given. (although not in the same room)

I wouldn't even concern yourself with the fact that the mock exam is given at the Javitz center. Not really important.
I can't speak for adaptibar, but PMBR has excellent outlines and very good practice questions. The questions from PMBR might even be trickier than the actual exam, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Make sure to supplement with the online exams available through NCBE. Those questions are the most indicative of the kinds you'll see on your exam, as the same people who wrote your exam questions wrote those practice questions.
***I provide tutoring for the Multi-State Bar Exam in person in New York, and online through e-mail and Skype. I also assist with essay writing, specifically the state-specific portion of the New York Bar Exam. Please contact ssilver0210@hotmail.com if you have any questions at all, or for further information. References are available, and my prices are very reasonable.15616

I am a repeat taker (#3 coming up) but only have to retake the essay portion as my state allows me to retain the last MBE score. I only used PMBR the first time and got 133 scaled, last time I used Adaptibar and did 1500 questions and got a 145. Adpatibar allows you to focus on your weak spots, plus the explanations spill over onto the eassys, my state does the MEE.
For the money I think Adaptibar is a win-win.

I'm a repeater going into #3 as well. I think Adaptibar TOTALLY SUCKS!!! The questions are WAY too easy. No wonder the examiners released those questions. The real things are MUCH harder than Adaptibar. Not even on the same planet. PMBR is much more realistic and maybe not hard enough. Trust me, I've been there twice already. Unfortunately, my state (CA) requires us to do the MBE each time. I wish I could keep my 141 score from last time!

Adaptibar has 1400 questions or thereabouts. Not as much as PMBR but I do belive they are infinately better questions as they are real questions. btw they are not thrown out questions but rather "compromised" questions (i.e. disclosed by students or PMBR themselves - OP1 is exactly the same as one of the old PMBR Mock exams). Also if you feel they are easy do February 1991 paper as a mock in about 2 weeks from now (mid July) and it is pretty indicative of your final score.
Also the Adaptibar ones are better becaus they are written by the same brains on the same committee who will write your exam this July and therefore for this reasons just seem more representative. I felt comnfortable in my exam for that reason.
Anyway finally and most importantly the Adaptibar questions are better because they represent the types of questions and theories tested on the Bar exam and thereby focus your studying in the right areas as opposed to the PMBR ones which seem tricker and more off topic. PMBR seems to focus their emphasis on fringe areas of testing.
So the compramise I would say is focus heavily on the Adaptibar ones to learn the theory initially (I would say repeat them twice until you are hitting 70% overall) and then if you still feel you are missing out do the PMBR red book solely until you are hitting 70% overall again. The Blue books from all accounts seems a bit crazy and has some wrong explanations so I would avoid this one.
The other big advantge of Adaptibar is that it hones in your weaknesses, gives your answers immediatly after each question, helps you manage your timing on questions (I really belive that sweet spot technique is a good indicator of whetehr you know a subject or not). It is also very convinient for working people or those on the move. I used to do questions in my lunch hour at work and one the move on my mobile device. Cramming in those extra 5 questions here and there really adds up.
Anyway my 2 cents and HTH's.
