How many complete essays have you written so far? I'm trying to gauge my progress. What about PTs? Thanks!

i've been studying for the bar for 4 weeks now, and have written thus far 48 essays and 8 PTs. that's 2 essays per day 6 days a week for 4 weeks, and 2 PTs a week each thursday.
i've got 4 weeks left to prep, and will do the same amount over this time. in total, i will have written 96 essays and 16 PTs over 8 weeks.
i am not doing that many mbes. i have done about 480 thus far, and will do about another 480 or so in the coming weeks. i'm only doing about 20 per day, but scoring well above 80% for all subjects, so i think i'll be fine.

Rock on, shredded! I'm doing 5 essays and 1 PT each week since that's the maximum my tutor will grade each week. I'm doing much better in my writing, but that's been my downfall for two prior bar attempts, each missing 1440 only slightly. My problem now is finding the time (and desire) to do MBE's, which exactly the opposite of my studies for February. I find Adaptibar WAY too easy so I'm bored. I may switch to PMBR but wished they had online questions. Or do they now?

i would recommend against PMBR, especially the red book. the questions are not indicative of the bar exam, and will shred your confidence.
get the emmanuel book and 200 questions from NCBE. that's about 750 questions total, which is sufficient for the next 4 weeks. this theory of "these questions are too easy" is true to some extent, but real questions are much better than PMBR questions, imho. hth.

If you're located in NY, an approach that many find helpful is to review as many prior essays (released on the internet) as possible. It's not so important to write these essays out (though if you have time, it could help to write a few), but instead, be sure to review the substance of the answers, as well as the way they were written. Reviewing the way the were written is perhaps even more important than reviewing the substance. The substance can be learned from outlines, but the way the essays have been laid out is exactly what the NY Bar Examiners want to see. That is why they have chosen those essays as sample answers. Learn from them, and replicate the procedure on your exam.

First four weeks:
Written 6 essays;
Answered 820 MBE questions; and
Wrote 1 PT.
Next four weeks (plan):
Write 40 essays;
Answer 900 MBE questions; and
Write 7 PTs.
We'll see how this plan goes. Although the first four weeks were to create substantive outlines and memorize the substantive law for the subjects...

I passed the TX bar in Feb 09. I did ZERO essays before the exam. Just read the material, do the questions and briefly outline an answer. You are wasting valuable time writing out full answers that no one is going to grade, IMO.

Studying for the CA bar. I've written about 20 full essays and plan to write at least 30 more (around 1 a day).
Usually I write an essay and compare mine to the past graded ones on the CalBar website and the BarEssays website.
I've found the process of comparing my essays to past essays really helpful in honing in proper IRAC and format.

196 essays?! haha, no way, what are you re-writing the King James Bible??..BS. Anyway - I've done 15 Essays so far, 2PT, and 1534 MBE Qs (been heavy w/ the MBE). You guys have to check out baressays.com (shameless plug) the load of crap that people write on the essays (of course they failed) it's pretty hilarious, and sometimes a morale booster (lame, but whatever) - I usually do an essay and compare it to those that got 55s and below to 65 and above and to the bar exam model answers, just to gauge how I did, and also helps to memorize the rules/issue spotting/analysis.

I wrote at least one per day in full, and sometimes 2 or three per day. Without practice, you will not be able to succeed on the real thing. You must be familiar with the pressures and the process.

Where do I find CA bar exams to write out other than the calbar.org website? Is it worth them to buy off ebay?

Buy the BarBri CA Essay Exam Workbook. It's got like almost 100 essays in there, I believe.
You can look on eBay, Craigslist, etc., or even on here in the Buy-Sell section.

Dude, aren't those enough essays? If you write out every essay on the calbar website, it seems like you should be good to go. just re-write the essays you wrote out a few weeks ago. this will show you if you have had an improvement and help solidify your knowledge.
