No you cannot. There will be water nearby provided but you cannot bring it into the exam area. No snacks.

you're allowed to bring in one fried chicken leg and a orange fanta. And it has to KFC grilled. C'mon, seriously? you really need a snack? you can't wait three hours? don't be that "guy" or "girl" snacking away during exams. The people around you will hate or want to punch you. Maybe sneak in a gummi bear; but if you hear someone in the back yelling: "proctor! gummi bear, over there!" that will be me.

No. You can read the rules on the website... but no candy... gum... gummie bears... or fried chicken. If you feel like chewing on something... there is always your pencil.
This is done for the other test-takers. Smells of food... sounds of chewing...and sounds of bags... com'on. Trust me when I say... the three hours are packed. Most of those taking the test will need every second. If you don't. Great. Finish early and then go get your snack. But do not sneak food into the test area. After all... if you fail... you want to fail because you didn't know the answer... not because you had a bag of chips in your pocket.

If you have time to have a snack in a 3hr exam you need to re-think your strategy.

Unless something recently changed, the California Committee of Bar Examiners
does not permit food or drinks (including water) into the testing area.

what if a person has a medical condition causing low blood sugar and extreme fatigue? shouldn't there be special accomodations for snacking since they let people with ADD have twice as much time as regualr people...

Valleygirl.. from everyone's remarks/answers you should have deducted that eating..chewing.. the smell of food is very distracting in a testing situation. and I believe that you answered your own question that if you do have a "medical" situation, you should then proceed to have your testing accommodations evaluated by the bar.... taking this test is not just about "you" it also everyone around you.
By now you should be able to take a three hour test and not need a break and if you have not been preparing for that...well then that rests on your shoulders....

oh man! and here i was thinking taking this test WAS all about me! and i could sure use some extra time to answer all the questions plus a mini lunch buffet- 'cause i get hungry, and that makes it even harder for me to focus!
