I know of the following:

DC - 133
Montana - 130
Wyoming - 130
Virgin Islands - 133

Can anyone add to the list? I am aware that many states do not
have a passing MBE score per se, because their MBE score just gets weighted and contributes to the overall bar exam score. However, in the above jurisdictions, if you meet or exceed the passing MBE score and fail the overall bar exam, you are allowed to carry over your passing MBE score and just take the remainder of the bar exam on your next sitting.

So, anyone know of other low MBE friendly jurisdictions?

You can almost add NY to that, oddly enough.

NY MBE only counts for 40% of the entire test. Barbri told us average is in the 140s ( i don't buy it though).

There is no minimum to pass, and I have heard as someone getting as low as 110 SCALED and passing.

IMHO, any one who scores at least 133 (the # needed to waive into DC) on the MBE should not repeat that portion....not in MIGHTY NY! Anyone with such a score knows the law and should be admitted.

AL is 128 but don't let that fool you. The passage rate, particularly in Feb, is low for in and out of state examinees. Last Feb was in the 50% range. The essays are very pointed and strictly graded rather than general concepts like many other states. That comes from a tutor and former bar exam grader in another state.

I've heard NY has a lower MBE than most states because there are ~24 NY subjects that people study for NY only and the MBE is only 40% of the test. Good luck to all who are waiting.

In AZ there is no score you need to pass, one just has to score 410 total. So, you could bomb the MBE and dominate the essays/mpt and still pass. Just thought Id throw that out there.

In SC you need a scaled score of 110 to have your essays graded (a scaled score of 125 to "pass" that section. In SC you can fail one of the seven sections and still pass the bar. The sections aren't cumulative. So the MBE is only 1/7th of the bar exam score.

Texas really doesn't have a set numerical value, per se. You can score low and still pass if you do well on the Texas portions.

FYI, evidently MT is no longer going to allow MBE transfers unless you took a full UBE. New rule that is going into effect now and applies to the July '13 exam. You can look at their site for specifics.

MI doesn't have a "passing mbe score" they weight it into the essays and then have a total pass/fail.

It is theory is nicer to some that way (if they somehow aced part and were just barely below in the other)
BUT it also means that you have to RETAKE ALL OF IT, EVEN THE PARTS YOU WOULLD HAVE PASSED IF GRADED SEPERATE.

THAT is a pain in the ass. I got a 150 on the MBE but bombed the essays in july. Had to retake ALL in feb.
fucking bullshit is what it is.

The MBE is only PART of it. Why focus on that so hard?
Besides the MBE is EASIER than the essays......so.......don't be stupid here folks?
