Description: I am retired attorney Eric DeCoster and I have been tutoring Massachusetts bar applicants since prior to the July 2003 bar examination. I am especially skilled in diagnosing the problems of repeat bar applicants. Immediately after coming to me for assistance, my “flagship” student then passed the Massachusetts bar examination on his FIFTEENTH attempt!
My goal: I want to turn you into someone who possesses THE SKILLS OF AN ATTORNEY, thereby MAXIMIZING YOUR PROBABILITY OF PASSING THE BAR EXAMINATION. How will I achieve my goal? Step-by-step, I will teach you HOW to go about PROPERLY preparing yourself for the bar examination, by teaching you how to work as intelligently, efficiently and effectively as possible, in light of HOW YOUR OWN UNIQUE BRAIN IS WIRED! I respect the fact that all of my students are unique individuals; I do not offer a “cookie cutter” approach to the challenge that now lies before you, as I am a firm believer that ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL!
Here is the executive summary of what my approach involves.
The MENTAL aspects of proper preparation, including:
MAINTAINING YOUR MOTIVATION;
MINIMIZING YOUR STRESS;
CONTROLLING YOUR THOUGHTS; and
MAXIMIZING YOUR RETENTION OF THE MATERIAL!
The STUDY TECHNIQUES necessary for proper preparation, including:
THE INHERENT NATURE OF THE EXAM AND WHERE TO FOCUS YOUR STUDY EFFORTS IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE YOUR SCORE ON THE EXAM;
MY TWO UNIQUE STUDY TECHNIQUES THAT YOU WILL NOT HEAR ABOUT ANYWHERE ELSE; and
HOW TO MATCH YOUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ENERGY LEVELS TO THE PROPER STUDY TECHNIQUES!
TACKLING THE MBE step-by-step!
WRITING EFFECTIVE ESSAYS step-by-step!
I will provide you with an exam writing technique that will make it as easy as possible for the bar graders to give you as many points as possible! I will also attempt to improve your skills regarding the quality and effectiveness of your legal analysis, as I want you to learn HOW TO REASON AND ARGUE AS EFFECTIVELY AS POSSIBLE.
SPECIFIC TIPS on how to "sprint completely across the finish line:"
WHAT TO DO DURING THE LAST FEW DAYS;
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU TO YOUR HOTEL ROOM;
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU TO THE EXAM; and
WHAT TO DO JUST BEFORE THE EXAM AND DURING LUNCH!
Please feel free to contact me via (315) 719-4317.
I look forward to working with you!

“Eric helped me to pass the Written portion of the Mass Bar Exam. Prior to Eric's class I was stressed out, and anxious about taking the written portion. I attended Eric's class and can say that after the first class I was in a position to pass the written exam. Eric's class combines exam-taking strategies with effective study techniques that in my opinion greatly increase the likelihood of passing. I should know, I passed the very first time. I highly recommend Eric's class to anyone who is nervous and stressed out about taking the written exam. You will be glad you did!”
Peter Rosa, Esq.
“Eric provided a logical, straight forward approach to the MA Bar exam. His program is an outstanding supplement to the Bar review courses.
His strategy for the essay portion of the exam allowed me to enter the exam with confidence and earn the points necessary to obtain a passing score. The cost of the program is minimal when compared to the impact.
I highly recommend Eric.”
Richard Wardrip, Esq.
“I passed the July 2011 Massachusetts Bar Exam with Mr. DeCoster's bar coaching services! He uniquely tailors his tutoring/coaching services to each individual student. He gave me a wealth of information that was easy to digest and I was better able to use my study time more efficiently and to study more effectively.
He's extremely personable, but he also has a straightforward tough love stance geared towards helping you PASS! I highly recommend him~”
Kyu Cho, Esq.
“Eric was an excellent tutor. He helped me focus on what was tripping me up and how to get past it in order to pass. Thank You Eric."
Idelta DaSilva, Esq.
“Eric's course shows students the keys to mastering the bar exam that the other bar review courses miss. A definite must for fine tuning your skills in preparation for the bar exam.”
Holly Hines, Esq.
“Eric's '05 half-day seminar was an important part of my bar exam prep that helped me organize vast amounts of information into manageable portions. Eric added a helpful perspective that supplemented the traditional exam prep courses.”
Rick DiMare, Esq.
“I found Eric's class informative and a great supplement to the other Bar review classes.”
Lyonel Jean-Pierre, Jr., Esq.
“Eric's style of tutoring is refreshing in contrast to the "Big Box" style of PMBR and BAR/BRI. His techniques are geared more for the individual test taker. I used some of his suggestions, such as time management for both studying for the exam and taking the exam, which I believe aided in my passing the Massachusetts Bar.
I recommend Eric's course to anyone that wishes to supplement their traditional bar prep courses with a different take on preparing for the exam.”
John Jackson, Esq.
“Eric's class helped me pass the MA Bar exam. His class was clear, concise and easy to understand.”
Alex Vijayakanthan, Esq.
“Eric and his Bar Preparation Program were extremely instrumental in my passing the bar. The tools provided by Eric's program helped me prepare for the two day exam and to overcome my mental fear of taking the exam. I highly recommend you take part in Eric's program if you are looking to succeed on the Bar Exam.”
Tiffanie Ellis-Niles, Esq.
“I highly recommend Eric as a tutor for the Bar Exam. I was trying to pass the GA and MA bar at the same time and needed some guidance on my essay writing. Eric really helped teach me what mistakes to avoid and what points to make sure I make with each subject. After hiring Eric as a tutor, I was able to successfully pass both bar exams!! I highly recommend him to any student studying for the Bar.”
Angela Theodoridis, Esq.
“The best thing I learned at the seminar was what percent of time should be dedicated for each subject on the essay part of the exam. Eric's approach definitely helped give me an advantage on what is an often overlooked part of the two-day affair. Thanks again!!”
Gary Christenson, Esq.
“I took Eric's bar lecture in 2006 and PASSED the MA Bar. I believe he concisely presented the subjects and instilled in the attendees a game plan to tackle the exam.”
Kenneth Augen, Esq.
“Of Course I would endorse Eric's tutor program! His insight and understanding of how to gain points on the bar exam was absolutely the reason I passed! I would recommend anyone to listen to Mr. DeCoster and follow his guidance.
Roger Durkin, Esq.
"I took Eric's class while in my last year at Suffolk Law School in Boston. His class was extremely insightful and really increased my confidence. Massachusetts does not give a passing bar applicant his/her score, but I did receive my Florida Bar result and it was great! Give yourself an edge and take this class."
Edward Principe, Esq.
"While the PMBR and BarBri materials are great for reviewing the substantive law, their study approach is not effective- at least it wasn't for me. I reached out to Eric after two unsuccessful attempts at passing the Massachusetts Bar Exam. I was working full time and had a newborn in the house, so I had to make the most of my limited study time. Eric's unique approach helped me focus on the important topics to maximize points on the exam. More importantly, unlike the big bar prep companies, Eric preaches that one size does not fit all. He motivated me and did not allow me to repeat the self defeating behaviors that were preventing me from passing. If anyone is planning to sit for the Massachusetts exam, I highly recommend calling Eric first!"
Marc A. D'Antonio, Esq.
“I highly recommend Eric's class. He has a very creative approach that adds tremendous value in the exam preparation process for anyone.”
Daniel Gelb, Esq.
“Eric broke down how to pass the MA bar exam into simple steps. His course was far less expensive and much more effective because he focused on the basics of what you need to do and know in order to pass! He has my highest recommendation.”
Robert Kasle, Esq.
“Eric is an amazing bar exam tutor...I took his course in 2003 and passed the Massachusetts bar exam on the first try. His course is reasonably priced and I utilized more of his techniques than the ones I learned from the larger, more expensive bar preparation courses.”
Kristina Grasso, Esq.
“Eric's course was useful and helpful in preparing and passing the Massachusetts Bar Exam. I would suggest it to anyone who is looking for a supplement to traditional bar prep courses.”
Dave Dennis, Esq.
“To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this note as an unconditional endorsement of Eric DeCoster's tutorial services as a means of passing the Massachusetts Bar Exam. I have been practicing law now for over three years and believe that I would still be taking the bar exam had I not availed myself of Mr. DeCoster's advice on how to pass the bar. I signed up for BarBri and other tutorials, yet found the DeCoster advice more effective than anything else. Without hesitation I recommend his program.”
