Associate attorneys are lawyers who usually have a minimal amount of experience in the field. Many are just out of law school and developing their careers. Associate attorneys typically start out under the guidance of an experienced attorney, assisting with cases and writing reports. After gaining experience, associate attorneys can move up in the ranks of a law firm and start taking on their own clients.
Associate Attorneys who go on to become Law Firm Partners may see their salaries climb quite a bit. Median pay for Law Firm Partners is $204K annually. Associate Attorneys most often move into positions as Attorneys or Corporate Counsels; those groups report median salaries that are $7K higher and $44K higher, respectively.

Saw a job posted for $9 an hour (minimum wage is area is $8) looking for JD grads (unlicensed) to do bar prep. Offered $11 an hour to recently licensed to with no experience. Up to $15 if experienced and willing to be a team leader (whatever that means) Said it was "overtime exempt" (since contractor and thus doing your own taxes too since legally your own boss) but MANDATORY weekends, so...……..same town town pays $12 an hour at burgerking………..factor that in.

Depends. Document Review is the main employed of JDs nowdays. Licensed makes like $22 an hour and unlicensed (sometimes chronically) makes around $18 an hour both with decent hours but often exempt from overtime and tax issues at the end of the year since (somehow) not a real employer but contractor work or some bullshit like that.
Actual firms (small ones anyway)tend to pay starting pay around $30k (crazy as shit but true) since so much competition. Expect 100 hour weeks there too, so less per hour than a fry cook.
Big Firms? Just be happy to be there and STFU.
