How is your practice/job going during pandemic?

You mean BK? Yeah, they fired me from that for bragging about my JD too much in the breakroom. Apparently the 17 year old manager's 40 year old janitor boyfriend didn't appreciate it. She tots wanted me tho.

The pandemic period was genuinely strange for civil litigation. Courts went remote at different rates and with different levels of competence, and for about 18 months you had this patchwork where some judges were doing full Zoom trials and others had essentially suspended civil dockets indefinitely.

What it revealed: the legal system's reliance on in-person formality was partly functional and partly just custom. Zoom depositions turned out to work fine for most purposes — arguably better in some ways because document handling is easier on screen and witnesses are slightly less able to play to a jury that isn't there. A lot of those practices have stuck.

What didn't survive well: client development. Building a practice relationship remotely is genuinely harder. The casual client lunch, the courthouse hallway conversation with opposing counsel that turns into a referral — that dried up and it took a few years to rebuild, at least in my practice.
