NCBE Assholes re MBE

breanna
That was fucking bullshit. I have never seen a test so minutiae heavy. Nothing was testing you to what you studied and knew from your respective courses. Everything was put there to trick you out of the right answer. Its like each bar they figure out a way to get around barbri, kaplan, and the released questions from adaptibar and create scenarios and wording in scenarios that are just ridiculous with answers that rename the actual correct theory or answer. I am pissed.
What the hell was that. Seriously. Fuck them. There has to be a change. in no way does this prepare you nor test if you are ready and able to be an actual lawyer practicing practical real world law. The mbe is obsolete and not applicable to law that is actually practiced day to day. State essays should be weighed more...this mbe shit, ugh, i need a drink...i was scoring 70%s on barbri and adaptibar.....why did nothing i see on this mbe reflect anything i studied for.

agree 100%. I was scoring over 80% on adaptibar but left taking the mbe feeling like I got punched in the face.

I could not have said that better myself. I self studied, but did over 2k MBE questions from various places; BarBri, Kaplan to the point where I recognized most fact patterns. I can honestly say that I did not recognize one FP on this MBE

Bar exam is the biggest fraud ever. Just trying to get a little more dough from you. Really, if you can graduate law school with a reasonable grade, you should just be admitted to practice in the State (like WI.)

Stay strong my dude.

I felt ok with the MBE thanks to Emanuel Strategies because I think that's what is all about. MBE is not testing if you are smart. This is tested on essays. MBE is just a strategy game.

Yeah, MBE is testing you on how well you know the MBE. It's pretty dumb and ofcourse not intended to determine who is competent to practice law.

I used Themis and I thought their questions prepared me well for the format.

I hate to sound so negative but I am fucking disgusted that after borrowing thousands of dollars for law school AND THEN having to pay another few K's for a review course and/or your own study materials there are still so many people, including myself who feel that they were unprepared for the MBE. And guess what, if you ever move to another state you have to do this all again. Bullshit. Only worth it if you are independently wealthy and can afford to pay cash for the degree. A complete racket

Hey Law Schools- especially the ones that offer a night program for people who work full time ( l was a night student). Kill the mental health law classes, the consumer law and all that other nonsense and teach us how to pass the Bar. We shouldn't have to pay a third party to prepare for an exam after we pay all that $$ to the law school.
ESPECIALLY WHEN THE EXAM IS A REQUIREMENT TO PRACTICE LAW A JD is a professional degree, not an academic one. Teach us how to be legal professionals.

As someone who is licensed in a few other jurisdictions... and had necessarily taken the MBE several times before in the recent past... This MBE was total horseshit. This test did not test knowledge of law in the slightest and bore very little resemblance to the exam I took merely two years ago. Christ, barbri should owe some refunds considering how useless their information was, talk about outdated and worthless.

I am so mad right now. This is absolutely ridiculous. Just go take a look at the mbe forum here on this site. no one is even sure about the definite right answers even after having a day to check their notes. wtf was this test. This is the only test on America wherein if you put the work in and work your fucking ass off and know the the subject cold your not guarantee to pass because the test consists of situations and scenarios that never happen in real life! There no applicable to the actual practice of law like the lady said above. What. The. Fuck

you guys are such bitter little bitches. everyone who becomes a lawyer has to take the MBE. It's part of the "rite of passage" process.

My MBE (Feb 2012) was difficult. Did I bitch about it? No. I just had to accept it was difficult and hope that I answered enough questions to pass. I passed.

Why are you people bitching so much? Calm DOWN. Do you realize that if it was hard for everyone the curve will be more generous?

The bar exam is not outdated. It needs to be there to filter out the jokers who went to law school because it was their last option. You guys are just whiny brats.

@dirtyvegas shut up you have no idea what that MBE was like.........Rite of Passage MY AZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!! Shut Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Just shut the hell up you stupid idiot...that MBE was stupid

@Breanna------You are so on the money its not even funny Halleuijah....NCBE should be ashamed of taking our hard earned money and not giving us a quality test

The MBE 2014 was harder than any company's questions that are out there....I know because I have been studying since November and have done everybody's questions THAT DAMN MBE WAS HARD AS HELL.....Ridiculously so.....I mean really NCBE did it have to be that damn hard...Really...What is the f'ing point of making it that damn hard....Kaplan PMBR questions came a tiny bit close....but really that test was nasty ass mean mean mean.....I bow down and I am with you Breanna that test was too freaking ass hard....Too study that much just to doubt every answer choice that you make while taking the exam...ok ok let me be fair I did see a few easy pitch questions but it was only a few....At this rate, I don't feel that I will ever pass. I am not going to give up though...After getting home I too have decided to never take New York again even though the New York essays were pretty straight forward but my typing skills sucked so bad I did not ever answer to sub parts to two essays and I failed to get to my last point on the MPT because of the sheer amount of reading and organizing that I have done in my brain. I know I will make a great lawyer because I have been doing great things in the legal field for a long time but the bar exam (MBE) was stupid hard, very stupidly hard. Good luck to all who took it. I truly wish you well. As far as that damn exam is concerned I am done with it....I will now focus on passing DC as least I can focus on one half of it at a time until I pass both parts. I hate the NCBEs you guys think you know what you are doing but you don't....If your job is to make a lot of money for the states because we keep spending our money to take this test then you are doing an excellent job, keep up the good work because all the states are making tons of money off of us taking this stupid ass exam which does not test anybody's skills to be an attorney....but I know the truth and that is you don't care about putting out a good product which tests our skills, all you guys at NCBE is doing is trying to show the bar exam companies that you guys are smarter than them. But us test candidates are the ones who are not only hurting finacially but we are hurting emotionally, spiritually and mentally....THAT F'ING MBE was too DAMN Hard, and the people up here that passed it in the past but the one (MBE) we just took was too DAMN hard.

hang in there guys... a lot of people felt the same way about the July 2013 mbe (myself included). we were all convinced that we were screwed but then the results came out and it turned out that it wasn't as bad as it had seemed. i think that when you do enough practice mbes you subconsciously learn the strategy to answering them so that you can almost instinctively weed out the wrong answers even though the fact pattern is like nothing you've ever encountered. i sucked at practice mbes (averaged at about 50-60% right up until the exam) and i got a 139.8 on the real thing. take heart and don't lose hope - best of luck to you all.

curve
If it weren't graded on a curve, it might be an interesting way for the ABA to correct the market by suddenly cutting out a significant number of entrants into the profession, but... that obviously isn't the intent... The curve is going to be ridiculous. And since every state bases the metrics of grading the essays and MPTs off the MBE curve, this should be very interesting. It would be nice to know their logic behind altering the test so significantly. I'm not against updating the test, because it does need to be changed, but I think they missed the mark by a long shot with this one.

Everyone knows the MBE in no way resembles the real world. I have an attorney friend who got 164 on the July MBE. We were doing some Adapitbar questions the night before the MBE, and he got 9 out of 10 questions wrong. You don't use this shit in real life, period. You forget MBE law and learn real life law after a few months.

I did feel that this MBE tested some stupid scenarios. The kid being sentenced to life in prison was based on some recent Supreme Court case and not on any outline I have ever read. The water tower question. The gay marriage questions. Etc.

However, I do feel that there were freebies as well. I guess after doing so many practice questions on Adapitar, you get the feel of the questions and fact patterns, and I would say about half of the questions I got down with no problem. There were some I had absolutely no idea and I simply guessed. Finally, the rest were questions were you got them down to two answers that both seemed right. God only knows if I picked the best "least wrong" answer on those.

Overall, I do feel more confident in this MBE than the July one, but there is NO sense of security or full assurance that I passed this damn exam. I simply have to wait another grueling 7 weeks with a false sense of hope, and I will not be surprised if i end up failing again, although I cannot take another disappointment.

This test has been used earlier, both sessions. The curve at that time was 16 points or so. I still think you need a 130 raw anyways to pass? I don't know. Does the curve determine the raw score or the scaled?

Well they didn't change it. This was a messed up test from an earlier administration. The NCBE just got lazy and pulled the toughest test they could find and retested it. No the curve at that time wasn't huge and a lot of people failed due to this MBE in July.

#110401

Yep. They will not give you points on the test questions. The 10 questions are necessary to asses their suitability for future administration.

They need a statistical confidence that a particular question will behave the way they think it should. Let that sink in ....
So, the 10 test questions you have will not be the same as the 10 someone else had. You get the point. 10 book sets of different order or whatever it is they use will have different experimental questions.

So their new 100 mbe questions they wrote will be divided among 10 groups of the test administration. Let's say there was question. which dealt with advertising and contract law. The bar examiners think it should accurately predict if a person knows the difference between an offer and a mere advert, they will then see if out of the 50,000 people who took the test a statistically significant number of them got it right. This is then used in a new MBE.

The problem with messed up tests and it happens often on different administrations is this: when you had an otherwise lets say reasonably well organized mbe testing you on principles reasonably and then you get 10 questions which are slightly hard. You might focus on those and get a statistically significant number of them right. (You had time in an otherwise fair MBE.)

Now, they collate all the 100 and make a new MBE. It could turn out to be a real beast. They don't have a statistical test for that. In order to negate this, they have 10 questions or so, which are from previous administrations, so they have a general measure of how this "group" of people performed compared to previous years where the same questions were used. This then lets them scale for difficulty of the test post administration.

Your individual performance on the 10 normalizing questions can be horrible and you may still do well. That's how the test is normalized.

Everyone feels that way after. I did, and I was hitting 70-85 percent on the practice questions going in. For a 120 on the barber midterm and a 153 on the real thing, which I felt was exponentially harder than the midterm.

You did fine! Relax and enjoy your time off!

I absolutely agree with the OP. If it is any consolation though, I felt the exact same way about the July 2013 MBEs, so much so that I almost went home after I took them and I seemed to struggle through every question and especially the property ones seemed so difficult, and I passed. I don't know what I scored, but I'm guess the fact that they scaled it so high because it was more difficult was part of the reason I passed. The multiplier in the bar exams before was around like a 2.8 or 2.9 if I remember correctly, but for the July 2013 it was something like a 3.5. I believe you needed about a 126 raw.

But it does seem like the MBEs are getting more and more difficult, and no course seems to really prepare you for what you see on the exam. Some people will tell you barbri has the best practice questions, others will say PMBR, other people will say Adaptibar. I used Barbri, but I wouldn't say that I recommend them other than they have good course outlines, but I felt the exact same way as you guys where I did thousands of practice questions, only to take the bar and feel like you are seeing new question fact patterns you hadn't seen before.

Exactly. Your major, statistics? So, the best strategy is give up difficult questions quickly and focus on easy questions because difficult ones are not graded. Spending 5 minutes on one such question and not having time to read 10 easy questions are worst scenario. Doing subject by subject might prevent that (easy first).

I agree with you guys...... this was some BULLSHIT. I understand these guys want to trick you with fact patterns, its fucking bullshit, but some bit understandable. What I don't understand is when the answers are the same letter for like 5 or 6 questions. Seriously wtf?

I don't know the pattern for the AM session, but in the PM session I had a bunch of B's in first column. Little mix up on the second. On the third I had C's towards the middle, 4th was a mix and then I had some A's. That shit was driving up the fucking wall. I said to my self fuck it. Anyone else had a similar experience?

BTW they had more than two exams. Mothafuka to my left and a motha fuka to my right had different exams than I did & they did not have the same exams... ye I took a peek... wtf they expect you to do after having a bunch of fucking B's and shit. Oh God guys, and I thought I was the only one. I even screwed up questions testing rules I basically knew... the wording of the questions.... coupled with fear of running out of time... made me rush through too many I needed to spend more time on... I made the mistake of going by memory, and skimming/looking up every questions I could remember from the MBE in the law books (barbri's, kaplan's)........... Were it not for my faith in Almighty God I would have had a nervous breakdown but even still, it's tough not to worry when in the end, there's a chance I didn't do my part.... and I will fail. I can't even go there. I'll pick up my bootstraps and retake it but, itll be very difficult to deal with life itself if I bomb this one

I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE NUANCES ON THIS MBE.................. My Morning section was fair.... THE PM SECTION? Honestly, I felt anger. I hope to God the curve saves us all

It's absurd that we give the NCBE so much power over our ability to practice law. After paying hundreds of thousands of dollars and sacrificing 3-4 years of our lives, they get the final say in whether we're able to enter the profession. I can't believe more of us aren't upset by NCBE's cease and desist letter in response to our discussion of what many agree to be an exceeding unfair set up MBE questions.

So NCBE can create poorly worded hypothetical questions testing highly nuanced, fringe areas of the law and then threaten us for discussing that difficulty? The only ones in a position to challenge the fairness of the exam is the set of test takers that sit for that exam. By threatening our discussion, they seek to remove any accountability over the construction of these questions. Without a meaningful ability to discuss them, the potential for arbitrary grading abounds.

I am happy to come across this website! I graduated two years ago and haven't takent the bar until this Feb. I work fulll-time and have a young baby. My employer didn't grant my me requested vacation time to study. As a result, I only go to listen to lectures for 12/18 topics covered on the MEE.

For the MBE, I only did *gulp* 54 practice questions. I am a good tester generally. I felt like it was pretty easy--the morning moreso than the second session. I am an Torts and Evidence expert and I don't think I missed more than 3-4 combined in those subjects. I definitely feel like I passed by a comfortable margin....even though I have no handle on Con Law whatsoever. These replies make me feel much better.

Sorry for the typos. 12/18 subjects was for the MEE and my state essay exam (KY) combined. I had to cut corners so I created my own frequency charts and predicted what would come up on the exams. Thankfully, I was spot on. I don't know what I would have done if there was a commercial paper question. I've always been a strong multiple choice tester...essays are where I have always gotten into trouble. I can remember every exception when given options on M.C. but I blank on rules like nobody's business during essays.

They do what they are paid to do, and bars nowdays want them to be gatekeepers. (keep out the unclean)

Luckily, wooden secondary triple vs double glazing comes in a wide variety of different styles and colours, meaning you will be able to easily match the frame’s colour with that of your existing windows.
